However, there is one common form of heterophony that you may know, which is Bluegrass music. This type of texture is not used often in western music we find it more commonly in eastern music. Heterophony is a variation of monophony with an embellishment of the secondary melody. Heterophony is a musical texture with the same melodic line’s simultaneous performance, with slight individual variations, by two or more performers ( source). It is the base of musical texture, and the rest builds over this layer. ![]() There is no harmony it is very basic, and it is either played by one instrument or sung by one voice but all at the same rhythm and tempo in unison. Monophony is a musical texture with a single melody line. Let us go into more detail to help us understand these textures. There are four musical textures known in music: monophony, heterophony, polyphony, and homophony. Musical texture can also range from one dimensional to multidimensional ( source). We can conceive of musical texture as the density or thickness of a musical piece, showing the range between the lowest and highest pitches. Musical texture is the layering of a musical piece it can have one layer or multiple layers, which will build the texture and quality of a song. Harmony plays a role in the music’s feel, often displaying the song’s emotion, either the composer’s feelings or those the composer wants the listener to feel. Harmonies do not draw your attention away from the melody they merely build a texture behind it, adding substance to the piece of music.Ĭords often build up harmonies, and chords are multiple pitches played at once. HarmonyĪ harmony is supporting pitches that accompany a melody. The melody is the frame of a song built by a series of individual notes/pitches strung together, forming the most prominent layer in a piece of music by being louder, more dynamic, and having a higher pitch than the harmony. MelodyĪ melody is the fundamental element of music. ![]() We refer to beat as tempo, pulse, and meter.Ī beat happens when you have the main beat and an opposing beat with a different sound, which you perform using high and low drum beats or long and short beats. Rhythm builds on the beat, and both are always related to each other ( source).Īs an interesting side note, in Greek, rhythmos means “to flow.” BeatĪ beat is the unit of time we use in a piece of music, and it is the steady and regular pulse we hear in music. Rhythm does not have to be regular and evenly spaced as with a beat, so we understand rhythm as the movement of music through time. ![]() Each measure satisfies the staff’s specific time signature, and we know this time signature as the beat. The present invention helps to improve the accuracy of polyphonic character pronunciation prediction, effectively avoids classification interference, and easily implements coding and decoding. We can discern the pitch based on where the note is on the staff, and we know what rhythm to play by what type of note it is in the measure.Ī measure is the section of music that comes between two bar lines. The polyphonic character prediction method comprises the following steps: acquiring a polyphonic character text in a text to be predicted, and a preceding text and/or a following text of the polyphonic character text in the text to be predicted (S20) constructing one or more feature vectors corresponding to each of the polyphonic character text, the preceding text, and the following text (S30) inputting the feature vector of the preceding text, the feature vector of the polyphonic character text, and the feature vector of the following text into a polyphonic character prediction model to obtain a polyphonic character prediction result the polyphonic character prediction model comprises a first neural network module, a second neural network module, and a third neural network module the first neural network module inputs the feature vector of the preceding text and obtains a first output vector, the second neural network module inputs the feature vector of the polyphonic character text and obtains a second output vector, the third neural network module inputs the feature vector of the following text and obtains a third output vector the polyphonic character prediction result comprises a pronunciation probability of each pronunciation of a polyphonic character, which is obtained by concatenating the first output vector, the second output vector and the third output vector (S40) determining the pronunciation of the polyphonic character in the text to be predicted based on the pronunciation probability of each pronunciation of the polyphonic character (S50). ![]() Then I noticed that the ipods had album shuffle. (I’ve written more about Album Shuffle here.) The order of tracks, representing movements or songs in a larger themed composition, matters. This is an important feature if you want to listen to any album that isn’t an 80s pop album with only one or two good songs on it, like for example, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons or Pink Floyd’s Wish You were Here. I wanted “Album Shuffle”: the means for shuffling your songs by random album rather than random song. Yes, the Archos was a solid brick of an mp3 player, had a simple yellow LCD display, USB 1.1, and a very short battery life which required me to carry around its AC adapter wherever I went, but that’s not the reason I gave it up. My trusty old Archos Jukebox 20 Studio just wasn’t cutting it anymore, even with its ROM flashed with open source Rockbox firmware. Last year around this time I was thinking about mp3 players. I’m keeping it up just in case folk might still find it useful. The article below on how to use an HFS+ formatted iPod on Windows is showing it’s age. If you’d like to install Rockbox+Emcore on your iPod Classic (a/k/a iPod 6g+), this wizard from the good folk at Emcore helped me out immensely. (Note that to download the themes I display above, you’ll have to lie and tell the utility that your iPod is a 5th gen model.) ![]() I use the Rockbox Utility to manage the player, install the themes I want, backup my settings, and update the operating system occasionally. If you want you download my hack of “Widescreen” for the iPod Classic, here. I was able to read the theme documentation and adapt Humberto’s theme to one which showed exactly what I wanted. The original “Widescreen” theme by Humberto Santana didn’t display all the information I wanted, but this was the joy of using open-source software. The themes I’m using are “Terminal” for the Base Skin and “Widescreen” for the Now Playing Screen. Most importantly, I finally have control of the track data and cover art displayed on the iPod (see below). You should be fine so long as your Playback Settings are then set to shuffle. I learned it helps to have all your folders as children of a single root directory that you can generate a single playlist from. You can save your folder list so you don’t have to that each time.Įven random track shuffle isn’t exactly straightforward, and I can’t say that I’ve mastered the process well enough to provide my own documentation for folk yet either. First generate your folder list, wait a while until the script finishes, and then play shuffled. ![]() It requires using a handy script “random folder advance config” that is located in the plugins/applications directory. Setting up Album Shuffle wasn’t as straightforward as I would have liked but it works. Syncing my iPod is now a much more straightforward process. On the other hand, it’s a remarkably robust operating system for one classified by its developers as unstable. For now, Rockbox classifies its 6g build as “unstable.” Rockbox does crash my iPod, way more often than with the original iPod operating system did. ![]() Not all my videos will play as they had before. Yes, there are bugs, and no, none of the 3rd party hardware that I had to extend the iPod features (radio, wireless control, etc.) work anymore. UPDATE (May 2013): For the record, I’ve formatted my iPod back to FAT32 so I could install the open source Rockbox operating system for music players. ![]() Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP, the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. Most people would have to use a lifeline on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire (is that show even still on the air?!) if asked the differences between TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, etc. ![]() Image size is different than file size, and file sizes are largely dependent on the file format.
